Many more vehicles came by and dropped people off until there were perhaps 30 kids there.  I tried to mind my own business while they played guitars, sang, and prayed, but discreetly completed my jobs.

Once again, the literature bins were virtually empty and were refilled.  The register book has disappeared.  On the previous trip, the cave map had been removed, so I replaced it with a new laminated map (screwed down like there was no tomorrow), and also pinned a dozen paper maps to the kiosk.

To my dismay, the BFR recently placed in the entrance by VDOT had been moved!  From it's perfect position in line with natural barriers, it had been ragged 10 feet out toward the road.  This position allows no more than 2 vehicles to parallel park in front of the entrance, whereas the original position allowed two vehicles to pull in as well, while still keeping all vehicles outside the drip line.  There were smaller rocks placed on either side of the long, rectangular BFR in an attempt to block access, but these were clearly not large enough to preclude being moved by hand.

It finally dawned on me what had happened.  When the VDOT guy called to say the BFR had been placed, I recalled that he had mentioned that he wasn't happy with where it had been put; he thought it should be out farther.  When I inspected the site, I was very pleased with the location, but forgot to tell him that.  So he recently had a front-loader go by and pull the rock out.

I spoke to him today, and we were both chagrined at our lack of clarity; he will see that the rock is repositioned as soon as possible.  Jeff also mentioned that when he drove by IFC last weekend on the way to VAR, there was a porta-potty in the entrance!  It's gone now; johns were placed up and down the road that weekend because of a March of Dimes walk-a-thon being held there.

I am impressed that the cave is receiving a lot less trash and graffiti since the kiosk went up.  It clearly makes a big difference that people know the cave is cared for.
