SCCI contacted me about putting up a kiosk on the site and I told them it would probably be destroyed in short order by the locals using it as a shooting target as have all of the boundary signs that were tacked to trees along the road. And it would just attract unneeded attention to the cave.
I took Dave Hubbard to the cave several years ago to assess the need to do something to preserve the saltpeter artifacts. He suggested leaving the material in the cave so long as there did not seem to be vandalism activity rather than trying to remove it to the Droop Mtn. Battlefield Museum as had been suggested.
I will visit the cave (probably Memorial Day) with Dave Culver's biology assessment team that has a contract with DNR to assess the status of caves throughout the state having known biological resources.
